Hey Kajan,I"ve been using satin polyurethane in a spray for my wooden masters and having great success. You just want to make sure it is good and dry before using to make a mold. I still would use vaseline on it during the mold making process. Also I don't think it would matter if it was gloss or satin. All great tips I recieved from the gentlemen on this site.
  2. Thanks for the info guys. I agree with you Vodka on the depth. I was using the Plano box for small one piece molds.
  3. Hi Guys, Well thanks to you guys I have been making some successful 1 piece molds and pouring some nice perch plastics that have been catching fish and I am now onto 2 piece molds. I was wondering what you guys think or do about setting the master into the PoP. On an average how soon do you put the master in once you pour the 1st layer of PoP? Do you do it when it is still very wet or when it starts to harden, then push it in? Any comments would help. I thought I would add that I was using a (roughly) 4x8 clear Plano tackle box that has 5 narrow compartments for my 1st molds, then once I poured some good ones I would make a larger 6-8 cavity mold out of something else. It just seemed easy to work with the small Plano box to not have to mix alot of plaster and easy to knock it out of the Plano.

    POP mold

Drfish, You only have to do it initially to cure it and strengthen it. If you haven't already done it you might want to take a look through all the posts on this site. I am just starting out too and I've found alot of great ideas and information here to help me along. These guys on here are great!
  5. Thanks HJS, Is it difficult to get the mold out of the container you are using with it being super glued?
  6. Thanks Nova, Maybe that's my problem. I have been putting vaseline in the container, then vaseline on the master, so when I press it down it would kind of stick to the bottom of the container, but maybe by not using glue a little of the plaster is getting under the master even though it does not look like it.
  7. Thanks Nova, That's what I was trying to accomplish. Once I get a good one from my wooden master that's what I will do. Question: Do you pour the plaster then place your master in and push it down or do you put your master in 1st into the container your going to use then pour the plaster over it? The reason I ask is because I have been putting my master down 1st then pouring over it because I liked how flat and smooth it was when I would pop it out of the container I was using and thought it would make for percise pouring.
  8. Hi HJS, I was using the same wooden master for all of the molds and they were 1 piece molds.
  9. Thanks Saga, I guess I will have to give it more drying time. I was letting it dry about 30 min before trying to take the wooden master out of the mold.
  10. Hi Guys, I'm having some trouble of the mold chipping on the edge of the cavity when I try to take out my wooden master. The 1st one I made was great and now the next 6 or 7 are all chipping or some of the pop is coming with the master. I have been putting vasoline on the master, but I'm not sure what to do. Any help would be great. Thanks
