  1. Well since its getting cold up here thought I'd try my hand making a few lures. Before I go to the trouble of painting just curious your ideas what I need to do to protect the wood while testing them in water. I'm working on monster shad lures for muskies using cedar wood.
  2. Thanks folks a lot of good ideas using 120 now an next go to finer. The spankling sounds real easy might just dry it out an see how it comes out. Thank you again
  3. Thanks guys I use 120 but still have some marks, the super glue is a good idea but I'm building muskie baits. Before I prime the bait maybe a dip of concrete sealer would do the same as super glue
  4. i'm working with azek an after sanding I'm still getting sand marks, this stuff seems hard to sand an get a smooth finish. Just curious if you guys find it hard to sand also an what you are using to get a smooth finish. Would a coat of Devcon work to give it a smooth finished
  5. well i knew something was wrong there but thats my first of cleaning it i thought about taking another one apart but id still have been loss for what id done if it would have worked for me. your knowledge really did the job. like i said when i took the side off there was some resistances is that typical when the come apart. i even thought about nipping a little off the clutch washer but leave enough for the blocks to stay on. when i get into the other ones i hope i dont have any troubles but im sure you will be here thank you very much i really appreciate your help. headed muskie fishing next week got a polar vortex lol where did that ever come from gezz getting old sucks. lol thanks again glenn
  6. musky sent you a package today i hate for it to just ly around here i hope you can tell me whats wrong sent you a message
  7. hey musky ill work on some pics an post tomorrow. been out fishing finally got a pretty 30 today on homemade bait lol. i just might send it to you if we cant figure it out.
  8. ok went over everything on the crankside all the gears are working i made sure the pinion gear is turning when i turn the handle shaft. when i slide the side down to the spool i can see the brake blocks just on the edge ive pushed them in enough to go in but when i turn the handle the pinion gear isnt engaging the clutch washer that turns the spool everything feels really tight
  9. the 2 white blocks are the brakes they are on the clutch washer this is engaged with the pinion gear on the inside of the side piece. there is a recised chamber i assume the blocks ride in there. i put them in but the spool wont spin real easy any ideas
  10. thats what it looks like musky ive pushed them in as far as they will go. where the blocks are the wire on both sides are bent inward should i bend them out maybe a little. also i have the tension knob off
  11. im not sure but the pinion gear seem sloppy, but thats without the axle installed i have a feeling this might be wants keeping the side plate not to seat
  12. the link was a great help i couldnt find my reel until i searched the link i have been having a hard time finding the one with 2 breaks. yes a big help thank hou i have been over the reel several times and everything looks in order. when i took that side off i did have a resistance kind of sticky. the reel was working fine beside a noise from the spool. ive greased lightly an oiled all the moving parts an everything looks in order cor some unknown reason when i do but the side on something isnt lining up i presume the spool wont spin
  13. thanks rayburn its a 5500c3. Im not missing any parts there just seems to be something holding me up for the crankside to seat. ive tried rebuilding it oppostie then your suppose to from the othere side hope theres a garcia guru in hede lol
  14. was cleaning this reel an when i try to put the crankside it doesnt want to go. i cant find whats keeping it from lining up. im not sure what model this is numbers under the seat are 991012 35 it only has 2 brakes im just learning on cleaning an lubing my reels i hope it isnt sharp learning curve. thanks for any info
  15. Thanks deleted for the info I'm planning on trying to make a few.. I only have one of these an it better beat up from muskie teeth. I have been watching ebay they are getting rare hopefully I won't lose the one I have so I can you it to dissect this winter lol
  16. I'm told the bagley db3 with a heart on the bottom of the tail is the older version of this lure. I'd like to build some of the older style. Curious about wood type an lip angle an rattle placements any of you guys have any info on this bait?
  17. Sorry not fat lol. I meant the gst. Clear coat
  18. So I'm in the process of foiling now, I have covered the foil with devcon2. Before painting I need to scuff the epoxy lightly correct. I was planning on heat setting the paint then dipping the bait in fat am I on the right track
  19. The devcon I had that was to thick never set up fully,I'm thinking it was old batch been in my shop maybe 2 years. I did another set today with new devcon an took my time applying the foil I used has a good shine I let you know how the devcon endsup
  20. Sorry folks if this as been hashed over couldn't find what I wanted to know in search. I put a coat of devcon on to cover the edges of the foil an I noticed on the drying wheel that I have too much on the sides of the bait. So can I lightly sand these runs an put a light coat over them. Will this kill the luster
  21. Thanks exactly the road I was headed down lol. Foiled baits get Devon2 then.
  22. I have used Devon2 before for foiling where it helped to fill in the edges of the foil. I just started with the GST an love the dipping an finish I'm getting. Has anyone used the FAR for foiling how did the edge of the foil come out. I'm going to try this week on the foiling any ideas on how to do the finish edges
  23. Curious for a beginner in paint for the airbrush. I've pretty much got the use of the airbrush down for a beginner. My problem is that I have lot of transparent paints verse the oblique . When trying to figure out my paint scheme I seem to run in to slot of trouble using the two types of paint together. As a beginner do you recommend one over the other, I'm thinking the oblique would be easier. I thought I'd get your input with the vast knowledge here plus maybe a good read
