  1. To make a harder lead-head jig or drop shot sinker, use a lead-antimony alloy, typically around 95% lead and 5% antimony, as antimony increases hardness and durability. Begin by safely melting the alloy in a casting pot within a well-ventilated area. Preheat your mold to improve the flow and finish of the molten metal, then pour the alloy steadily into the mold. Allow it to cool and solidify completely before removing it. For additional hardness, you can quench the jig or sinker in water right after casting. Once cooled, clean off any oxidation or excess material. Finally, paint or coat the surface for corrosion resistance and improved appearance. This process results in a tougher, longer-lasting tackle component ideal for heavy use.
