it swims with just the top of the head and a little bit of the back out of the water. originally i had a 3rd hook out of the tail but that caused it to float tail down in the water not level. from what i hear from guys in Florida and other alligator places, bass will eat a small gator. it swims with the head pretty stable and most of the motion in the back half of the bait.

i like the gold color. thats one i have trouble with.
wart frog response== mix some 5 min. epoxy and add just a touch of color to it. use a toothpick to place a small dot and let it set up. the dots will spread slightly so not too close together. i can get 6-8 dots placed before the epoxy is too stiff to flow well so don't mix a lot.

5 minute epoxy beads with a tiny bit of paint in it. do about 6-8 beads before the epoxy starts to set up too much to work.

weight is in the bottom rear. floats at rest at about a 45 degree angle with the nose and eyes just above the water. leaves a nice wake .

the little legs are made from wire insulation. they are flexible . i drilled holes horizontally through the belly and threaded the leg through and epoxied them in. they may get bent up but are not going to come out. they can be bent back into shape again. the front arms have a stainless steel skeleton like the bone in your arm, again inserted through the body of the bait. i made the hooks detachable to minimize stress on the bait ( hopefully ) .
i'll see if i can get some video of it in action. it'll be interesting just figuring out how to operate the camera and the lure at the same time.

nice job. my first ones didn't look nearly that good.keep at it, every progressive lure will improve. if it swims great thats the whole idea. i've scraped ones that looked good but didn't swim worth a darn. now i test them before doing all the finish work.

rod, the fins are pretty durable. i have given them a pretty good pull and they don't come out . they are made of individual fibers, very fine but tough.

beautiful paint job!

its called 'Microfibetts', got it at Sportsmans Warehouse in the fly tying section. they are a very fine fiber that i epoxy into a slot i cut in the bait before i epoxy coat the bait, that way they are locked in pretty good. then i touch them up with a fine point sharpie marker.
