Question about jig skirts

Recommended Posts

BAMA BASSER, Welcome to the site. Where in Alabama are you from? I like Silicone because of all the colors and patterns that are available. The rubber is hard to find at the momment but makes a good skirt. I also like to use Lumaflex. Right now, I use a combination Silicone/Lumaflex skirt for my jigs.

Silicone: good color options. Easy to work with.

Rubber: Breaths better than silicone but limited color options. I have found that the color tends to fade over time with rubber.

Lumaflex: Breathes better than rubber with limited color options. Can be dyed.

Living Rubber has Lumaflex. It is Spandex. Lumaflex comes in large rolls. I put two screws in a piece of wood and wrap it around the screws. Once I have the thickness I want I wrap a twist tie around the material which gives me a way to pull it through a collar. The diameter is a little small for me(1680 Denier). That is why I combine it with other material. It makes a great spinnerbait skirt just by itself. Does not fade, very durable. Some like it, some don't.
