Pouring problem

Recommended Posts

When pouring I keep getting lead around and in the eye of the hook. The mold is a poison tail mold, the mold is clean and free of any excess lead. I usually pour with the pot on number four or five. Just wondering if anyone else has had this problem in the past and solved it. Thanks for any input.:)

Exactly! The hook is too small for the groove in the mold. Are you using the hook recommended on the mold? If so, I would get hold of Do-it and pitch a fit, they may replace it. If not, they won't help you. You could try the next size hook if it is feasible to do so.

Thanks for the replies guys. I think I found the problem. Upon closer inspection of the mold I found some minute spots of lead on the finished area of the mold that surrounds the mold cavity, therefore the mold is not closing all the way, I hope. I'll let you know if that's it.

I think you hit it TC. Sometimes a small piece of lead will find it's way onto the inside face of the mold and when you close the mold it flattens out; but it is still enough to not let the mold close completely. Make sure you look the inside of the mold over very well every 3 or 4 pours and clean off any foreign material before you continue pouring.
