  1. Big Z, You mentioned that you had a few cold ones in you at the time. This may have been the problem for more than the obvious reason..lol Did you have your beverage in a coozie? If not, you may have had some "cold" condensate on your hand from the can when you touched the glass. This would cause the shattering. I am very carefull about drying my hands when drinking the holy water and pouring at the same time.... Just a thought.....
  2. I forgot to mention but Dave reminded me. The cups that exploded on me was not true pyrex.... It was an off brand, and I went out and bought the real stuff soon after... That was almost a year ago and I have cooked alot of plastic since then with no problems..... I dont know about "wierd" but it was definatley a 9.9 on my "SCARY SH**" Meter... hahaha
  3. i think they all start with a paste... the paste is really all the coloring you need. people like lurecraft add whatever that liquid is to it to weaken the concentration and make money..... i knew the name of a paste company, but i lost it..... the problem with paste for small guys is its so concentrated you have to mix at least 1 gallon of a color at a time... i think 1/8th a teaspoon of pure paste will color 1 gallon of plastic.... at least that is my understanding of it..... john
  4. Lets take black with blue flake for example. We use 1 tablespoon of .35 per cup of plastisol. More than that becomes hard to pour. My question is would smaller flake be more visible because you actually would have more surface area of flake in a tablespoon? To make it simple has anyone had better luck with smaller flake??? thanks John
  5. I dont know if they are the "best" colors... But lurecraft is a good place to start....
  6. We stir with wooden dowel rods.. You can leave them in the pot and they dont get hot on you. I also have an aluminum rod with a wooden handle that works great... One time I used an old screw driver....
  7. Sam, We are getting low on some colors as well. Be interested in the fine flake. Let me know when you can send a sample. (wont need much just a couple table spoons) Hopefully we can do business with you... John
  8. That happened to me once also. I poured the hot plastic out really fast and POP all i had left was the handle in my hand. I try to keep my shop pretty warm at all times after that.........be carefull guys.....
  9. Yes sir, We use the small pots and I love them.. I cant tell people enough that its worth the investment of 50 bucks to get away from the pyrex or pans.. Even if you are just gonna pour for yourself. The things really work well.. My question for you would be why the switch? I was wondering what people think about the larger pots.. Would save some time for me if the flow is precise enough. I cnt imagine there would be a difference other than volume.... Thanks John
  10. Just a note: I have had alot of success making great colors with med smoke and any highlight color.... Takes the effect of the powder well and they really look great..So you cant go wrong with smoke and highlights... Also noticed that gold highlight on solid black looks really good.. We call it texas tea in the huffer custom colors if you want to see it.. Dont know if the pictures do it justice though.. Under the sun, the gold really shows up well.. Not a real help with the question, but still with the subject I suppose...lol Take Care, John
  11. Gator, Maybe you can add a nipple to the bottom like a lee pot...... I remember talking about this along time ago... Please keep me posted on your results.... I always knew you would figure it out..... Let me get this straight... The pouring hole is in the center of the pot to avoid the heating element??? I think I may have an idea for your automatic stirring but not sure if its possible... Think about stirring around the rod..... dang this is going to be too hard to put into words.... Im gonna need to make a picture somehow...Ill get back to ya...... John
  12. welcome rex! you will find that there are no stupid questions here. (except for some of mine....lol) someone will know the answer and everyone loves to look at crazy baits... you are already addicted, its like some kind of sickness or something..... It gets worse.... Good luck, John
  13. It sounds like you have already invested a lil money in your hobby. You got the highest quality molds on the market. That being said I think its time you dropped 50 bucks on a lee production pot.. All your pouring problems are solved... So much control and precision with those things you will love it.... Keep the pans for doing tails n things until you decide to get 2 pots.... Just my advice, I started with pyrex cups to and after lee pots I will never go back.... good luck to you... John
  14. Hey Al, you could name it "synthetic blend".......just a thought..sounds like a great motor oil color...... John
  15. We have had similar problems with lee pots.. They have a 2 year manufactures warranty.. Just send it back to them and they will fix it and return it.. Sounds like the thermostat or element is bad... John
  16. i agree, "the jerking fool" is the first thing I thought of as well. The card looks great... However it may be more economical for you just to print the front.... Be sure your website is mentioned somewhere, if it isnt... Good Luck with the foolishness..... John
  17. Good Luck Chris, I dont think they have a leg to stand on....sounds like a real bluff to me. I have been warned by others that some people will try to scare you out of business.. Just hold your ground.. let me know if you need someone to help you argue.... John
  18. Tude, You are probably right which is why we want to get that merchant account going asap.... I think paypal is great and secure, but thats just me and I understand that many people see it as a hassle. The last thing anybody running a business wants to do is make it hard for someone to give you money..... however it hasnt hurt us too much that we know of. We dont really rely on individual sales through our website.. We want to make sales to dealers and only offer our products on the website to the general public because we dont have that many dealers yet..lol In fact we have high prices on the site so we dont compete with our dealers, but still someone who really wanted them could get them... Regardless everyone should make it as easy as possible to collect the funds from thier customer any way they want to do it... My 2 cents again.. John
  19. Good words of advise Chirmy!! You hit on a hard subject and that pro-staff.. Its probably the hardest part of the bus for us so far.. Its hard to keep up with who is helping you and who might be hurting you... We made sure up front that we absolutely under no circumstances wanted any of them to lie about using our products to win if they didnt... We suggested that they just mention our name as a sponsor and that would be enough... The thing about it is that you cant keep up with what guys are doing in different states other than what they tell you.... Its also hard to find people that understand what it takes to get a new company off the ground...You cant have your hand out all the time, because our pockets are shallow enough.. Alot of guys simply want free baits to wear a hat for you....Its hard to handle it all and try to remain as professional as possible, but we are doing the best we can.... Any body else have pro-staff suggestions??
  20. Currently we are set up to run all orders through paypal... Thats not always easy to get the anti-computer old guy running a tackleshop to get online and setup a paypal account...If you know what I mean.. So I would also like to know who uses what for thier merchant accounts.. Charges and all that good stuff.... Thanks John
  21. we would be interested in 1000 9x5 bags....Is this still up for grabs?? John
  22. First of all Welcome back Tude! We have just completed our first fiscal year, and we are definatley not going to show a profit this year!! But thats buz.. However this first quarters sales is going to be better than all of last year! (Good Lord please let it continue) So I guess my point is it takes alot of patience and cash to get it going until you can start to pull out of the hole... As many of you already know we started out with the Huffer that was it. Its still the best seller and probably the most eye catching, but I think we are up to 9 different product lines now and many many colors (not nearly as many as AL, but we try to keep a stock of all colors). We kind of started different than most people would. We went into the first yer knowing we are going to take a loss anyway so lets make the best of it. We formed the LLC and got all the accounting and legal stuff squared away, focused hard on the pro-staff end and thier contributions to advertising for us... Sent out TONS of free samples and called and emailed anybody with a retail shop... You will get 100 no's for every yes, but thats true in every business. Just keep knocking... I am terribly lucky when it comes to the website...I just happened to meet Charlie (chief of pro-staff) and he knows how to do them himself. I cant tell you how much making him the chief of pro-staff has helped our organization... He keeps up with alot of the BS so my partner and I can focus on pouring and design....But not everyone is going to find a Charlie.. Production wise if you have a partner I suggest splitting the product lines up... Use a microwave and purchase good molds..... Molds are what makes you or breaks you in my opinion... I could keep going, but I was just shocked that my name was mentioned in the title..... Just shout if you want to know anything in more detail... John Huffman
  23. For pouring soft plastics, most people will tell you that 350 deg F is a good starting point. Lee pots are really great for pouring plastics and lead, however be sure you order the proper pot. The lead pot will get much hotter and scorch your plasitc quickly... Good luck John
  24. Thanks guys, I think it will be worth a try. I had assumed it would have to be "charged" in order to glow strongly. does anyone know if a blacklight charges the powder?
