  1. Using the hair dryer on the bait, after the epoxy is applied and while it is turning on the wheel, to just smooth it out works great for me. I don't heat the bait, just blow the epoxy with a little worm air to smooth it out. What can I say, it works good for me.
  2. I use 2 Ton also and have not had problems like that since I started using a blow dryer. I place my bait in my turner and coat it real good with the Devcon, then I turn on the turner and run the blow dryer over the baits. It seems to really smooth out the Devcon, and it drys good and smooth and clear. Hope This helps. Emmett
  3. From that last post,, don't forget to paint in a well ventalated area.....
  4. That is a great looking bait. What do you use for the fin on the side?
  5. I thin with windex also. You might want to strain your paint as well, that helps with the cloging.
  6. I carve all my baits from Basswood, cut the lips from Lexon, weight with lead. I cut my baits out with a scroll saw, use 80 grit paper to get the rough spots out then hand sand down to 1000 grit. I still need alot of work on the painting part, but, practice, practice, practice is the key. And of course this site helps a lot.
  7. I also use cheap glass cleaner from WalMart. It works great on thining the paint out. I found the idea an airbrush web site, I don't remember which one it was.
  8. At the hobby shopes or WalMart crafts section, you can get blank stencils. A tough plastic that works well.

I use Marine Tex Epoxy. It is at WalMart in the Auto paint section. It is a stick, that you pull off the amount you need and kneed it real good to mix the hardner. It applies like a putty, hardens to sandable state pretty quick. Water tight and tough.
  10. I would like to see the die also. Did you make the die yourself? If so, what kind of steel did you use? Tool Steel? Hope you heal up quick. I will keep you in my prayers for a speedy recovery. Emmett
  11. Nice fish and an excellent crank. I really like the colors, but, more important it looks like the fish like it to. Congrats.
  12. Nathan, not yet, I haven't messed with mixing the colors yet. I will probably work on that later today or tomorrow. Yea, they will put fish in the boat, my other ones have.
  13. Dean, Thanks for the imput, I have since made up some stencils. My free hand work is not that good, I know. The stencils will make help alot.
  14. The Devcon 2 Ton is all I use for top coats, and the last few times I have been to WalMart, they have been out. So, now I am out. With any luck they will have some in pretty soon. I might have to check Hobby Lobby, but, I know they will be more expensive. Might try and see if I can get it online. If anyone knows of an online source let me know.
  15. Since the rain has kept me off the water, I thought I would make a few new baits. I made 10 total, but only have 6 done right now. Let me know what you think. I am not the best with a camera. All comments Welcome, Emmett
  16. Thanks for all the help. I will try some of the mixes as well as the spray from WalMart.
  17. Thanks for all the help.
  18. Thank you for the help. I will do some experimenting.
  19. Any help? Someone is bound to know what colors I need to mix to make a good watermellon red. Thanks for all help, Emmett
  20. What colors do I need to mix to get Watermellon Red? I would like to put Watermellon Red on some of my Crankbaits. Thanks for the help, Emmett Here are some baits I just finished making. Now ready to paint.
  21. I use windex to thin it, I read about it on an airbrush forum a while back. I just add a little windex to the paint jar and add the paint put a lid on and shake it up real good. I also keep a jar with windex and water to run through the brush between colors.
  22. That looks great, nice job.
  23. You are welcome, it will be in the craft section.
  24. I use Apple Barrol from WalMart. It is under $1.00 and a good paint. I cut it with windex and it works out real well for me. I have found that the yellow seems to be a little harder to shoot for some reason. I also run the paint through a paint strainer, it helps to keep the chunks from clogging up the airbrush.
  25. That looks sharp. I would keep that one like it is and make anoter one with fins and see which one works best.
