    Whirlygig

Hi Diemai, Great looking lures, nice paint jobs too. Watched your video and I especially liked the Tally Whacker and your Prop Lure. I bet you could catch bass over here on those. John
  2. I made this a couple of years ago out of a do-it football jig mold. 1/8 to 1/2 oz. ruined the mold for making jigs. Made it for floating worms, doesn't matter how it lands, the worm will stand up. will try to post a couple of pics in the gallery tomorrow. John

Hi Mark, you did good an"A" on spelling and an "A+" on the paint job. I like it. John

    Swivels

I second what smalljaws says. I too have never had a bad swivel from the worth company. I would highly reccomend their product. The price is very reasonable if you buy them in bulk. John
  5. Hello fishgetter. Welcome to TU. Ideas and knowledge are freely shared here. It's a great place to learn all about tackle building. I like your handle. I make a spinnerbait that a friend of mine calls,"A Fish Getter". He won't go fishing without it's tied on. Again, welcome. John B.

  6. I wouldn't waste my time on these things. These guys are correct. Somewhere, I read that CD's and DVD's were made of pure polycarbonate crystals and they are crystal clear once you get the shiny coating off of them. I tried using cds and dvd's and was very disappointed in them. As Kelly said, the layers seperate easily after cutting. I glued the layers back together but it didn't seem to make them any more durable. The first bill did well until I hung it up and just a couple of jerks the bill snapped off. The others broke just banging them off the rocks while retreiving. The water was cold (march), I havn't fooled with them since. Should you decide to proceed, good luck and keep us posted. John

  13. These were done using the method that Small jaw suggested. Requires no altering of the mold which I like. The .011 wire was a little on the flimsy side and was pretty mangled after being bit. I would use a little larger diameter wire next time. Hope this helps. John http://www.tackleunderground.com/community/gallery/image/3244-weedless-wallys-peanut-heads/
  14. I have a couple of molds that I modified to accept a bait keeper. It is a screwlock type of keeper. I have a pic of one of them in the gallery. I call it the Ott Jig. It is a modified sparkie mold. I use .022 stainless tempered wire to make the bait/trailer keeper. It works very well but is a little difficult to thread the plastic onto it. I also have done this same thing to a brush jig. Hope the pic gives you an idea as to how to do it. John

    Service

Not sure where I should post this, if it is in the wrong place please move it to where it belongs. I am pretty much just a hobby lure builder, but a very serious one. I make just about everything I throw except for plastics. I have ordered from just about all the big companys that sell to the small time builder. For the most part , I have been happy with the service, semi happy with the prices and quite often disappointed with the shipping charges but everyone has to make a living and I suppose we just have to live with it if we want their products. I would like to put in a plug for a company that I think is an exception to the rule. Monday afternoon when I got home from work I placed an order with Fishing Skirts. com http://fishingskirts.com/index.php it was after 5pm when I finished making out this order and sending it in. The awesome assortment of colors, patterns and styles is the best I have found. Their pricing is excellent, their shipping costs are very reasonable also. Much to my surprise, my order shipped the very next day (tuesday)and I received it today on thursday. I must say that is great service and is really appreciated. I opened the box to examine the product, The silicone tabs were packaged very nicely and it is probably the best looking and highest quality silicone I have ever received. This company will get all my business from here on out. I would highly reccomend that anyone who is considering ordering silicone skirt tabs check this company out. 17. I think that is excellent, looks like real scales to me!
  18. You can, but it will take some modifying of the mold to do so. You will have to carve out a cavity around the hook shank for the screwlock to lay in. I use a dremel with a cutting bit to do this. Not hard to do but go slow, and you will get there. It makes a nice shaky head. John
  19. I've never heard of them, if there is one, I would like to see what it looks like. You didn't mean Colorado Blades did You?

    Screw Locs

You may want to look at this, it is easy to make and easy to use. I have made them with .016 all the way up to .035 spring stainless using this tool. I have found that .022 is works out the best for my use. You can get the stainless wire at most all of the tackle building supply catalogs. Barlows, Netcraft, Lure Parts etc. Hope this helps. 21. Circuit Sniffer, About four years ago, I came up with this design for a spinner bait. Maybe this will help you. http://www.tackleunderground.com/community/index.php?app=gallery&module=images&section=viewimage&img=198 I showed it to Robby (Jaw Jacker) Cochran. Robby told me it reminded him of a big Beetle Spin. It does have some similiarities and as JSC says about the Beetle Spin, it does have that little extra action and a different look that I think triggers the bite. I think it is one of the best spinnerbaits around for slow rolling or waking the surface. I am no rocket scientist but I think I am getting much stronger vibrations with this set-up because the weight is not on the wire absorbing those vibes. You could do as JSC says and attach a jig to a spinner bait wire by bending a small cross wise loop in the wire or by using a flat-eye jig and a verticle loop. I think you would like what you get. John
  22. You can order from hagens in any quantity, if you order less than the minimum they will add one dollar to your price. I.E. if their price is 100 dollars for 1000 blades and you only order 100 of them it would cost you ten dollars + one dollar for ordering less than minimum.
  23. I am no expert but I think that D2T 30 min epoxy is a good choice, it is easy to brush it on. and it will work as a sealer and a clear coat. Thin it with denatured alcohol to the consistency of milk and it makes a very good sealer for the wood baits. Before clear coating your painted baits, make sure your baits are clean and no finger oils on them or the epoxy will draw away from it. I use cheap hobby paint brushes to apply it. I also thin the D2T 30 minute epoxy with a few drops of denatured alcohol and am able to clear coat several baits before it starts to thicken and set up. John
  24. Geppa, thanks for sharing that. I like the use of the masking tape very much that was a great idea. Thanks again.. John
