This is my first attempt. This is carved out of poplar and is 6 1/2" in length. She looks kind of pretty but I still need a lot of work as far as practicality. Good learning event nonetheless. Thanks for all your help guys!
  2. Those are sweet! Are they one piece or two?
  3. No this is not for sale and I am not peddling my wares. It was my first shot at this type...im a plastics guy. I just want some opinions on this journey, thanks.
  4. The body is 5" and overall length with tail is 6 1/2" long. It weighs 2.4 oz. I used a polyuerathane coat after I carved it to seal somewhat and applied after each paint color to fix then used 2-ton epoxy for the top coat.
  5. Ok all, first thank you for the vast information that made my first attempt a lot easier than it would have been. This was my first attempt at a handcarved swimbait. The paint scheme did not come out as well as I wanted but I got in a hurry so its my own fault. I am trying the PVC now to compare. Anyways, here she is...my first little "Gill"
  6. I am waiting patiently for the mold also. In the meantime, bullet weights makes a pinch on sinker in various weights that work perfect on a g-lock. They are cheap and an excellent way to swap weight on the swimbait hook in a matter of seconds without changing hooks.
  7. BTW our website should be up and running soon (so the boss says (my wife)). I can pour in whatever color you want.
  8. Hey all, guess I should pay attention to the threads a bit more. This is my "baby". I designed it in sculptors clay, baked it then made the master mold in Oomoo. It has been a pretty big hit with the boys in Tx. I generally put a mojo insert in it but a lot of the guys have been using with Lake Fork 10/0 swimbait hooks. I havent tried that yet. I was sitting there one night in my shop thinking I have to come up with something original, different than a regular swimbait (fish) and after a few cold ones and a bunch of rough sketches I thought "what the heck" lets try a crawdad creature. This is what a Tx guy said when he test ran it (off TFF) "sapper, Just got back from Choke Canyon and had won on rigged with a 10/0 Lake Fork Tackle swim bait hook. Did have several hits on it but conditions were not to well suited for any swim bait there this weekend. Wind blew 20+ all weekend and had the like churned up. I will say that I can hardly wait to get this bait on Amistad. I have never seen a swim bait with the action this bait has. It basicly has two actions and does not have the tendency to roll over on its back or side like a lot of swim baits which inables a faster retreive. The two actions the bait has is one the tail vibrates with a rapid vibration like most swim baits. Second the main body action of the bait is what is impressive. While the tail flapping the main body has a very distict side to side wobble more similar to a hard jointed swim bait. This thing in the red ond orange belly should be great on Amistad and with the belly weighted hooks they can be worked right down in the grass as well as swim everywhere else." Thanks for the interest and kind feedback all, let me know if you have any quaestions.
  9. I do use sculptors clay and have not tried wood yet but am looking forward to it. The sculptors clay I use is very nice to work with. I make the bait as close as I can get it to what I want then bake it to harden. when it is hardened I do my details with the dremel and such. I hit my clay masters with and acrylic coat or two two ensure smoothness and then use OOMOO 30 for my mold. I have never had a problem getting the master out completely intact for future molds. Just the way I learned and it works pretty well for me. I have been tinkering with my new wood lathe however and am interested in using wood.
  10. Yes, these are the "hollow body" style. Smallie is correct, The vertical line is from the insert that creates the "hollow body" or hook slot. The part you can see is the transition where it goes twice the size and comes off a 45 degree angle. It poured all the way but since this is almost see through it is very easy to see.
  11. These were poured with clear plastic and a pinch of pearl hi-lite to give it some depth and shimmer I then took my airbrush and hit the back with black, added the eyes and then dipped in clear to seal. The dot was made with a sharpie (note: sharpie ink will run when dipped in hot plastic) I will use paintbrush and createx next time.
  12. So i bought a mold from GhostBaits , Thanks... and I have been playing a bit with it and the airbrush. heres what I have come up with so far on the trial run.
