  1. Going to try my luck at a swimbait. I've been putting it off because of wondering how to clear coat it. How do you go about clear coating a swimbait with the hinges in between the sections and not hinder the hinge action once dried. I was thinking that you clear coat them 1 section at a time ????
  2. Never tried Vandalizer. What would you suggest getting from Vandalizer ....
  3. allstate48 .... the aluminum netting for clay molds doesn't scratch the paint when wrapped around the lure ?
  4. +1 on the H20 Xpress CRM & CRS square bill baits. I've painted quite a few them. I've also read (don't remember where) that these baits where not designed as a knock of Lucky Craft lures BUT as a competitor to the Lucky Craft line. My brother and I have fished both Lucky Craft and H20 and pretty close in MHO. And ditto on the glitter ... I've tried one or two with the glitter and they take a lot of prep work.
  5. I used Createx, Polytranspar and Wildlife and I started using Isopropyl Rubbing Alcohol. Haven't seen any problems from using so far. Maybe someone can shed some light here if this is a bad idea. I'll shoot it thru my a/b to clean it out and clean out the paint. I'll also squirt some on a paper towel and wipe down my needle to remove any paint. Works well for cleaning out the tip. If I want to really give my a/b a really good cleaning then I will take it a part and soak the parts in something a little stronger overnight.
  6. RayburnGuy ... I know the results of Acetone and plastic I was careful around the hole so not a whole lot of D2T ran down into it. I dipped a brush in Acetone and then brushed it on a paper towel before brushing the threads. If I knew the depths of these lures I would probably just seal the plug ...
  7. The first time I did one these I cleared it (w/ D2T) without the plug in it. I was very careful when I got around the hole. Some ran down into the hole. I took a brush and dipped it in Acetone and ran the brush around the threads inside the hole. It seemed to do the trick in getting any and all the D2T out. As I was able to screw the plug in when it dried.
  8. Will the Popsicle stick method allow you to enclose the entire bait with the scale material? I've seen some baits with scales painted on them where the scales run from the top all the way down the side and under the belly. With no break in the pattern.
  9. Ditto with what DSV said on the aquarium netting. I've bought the aquarium netting at Wal-Mart in their pet dept. It's green. Works well.
  10. Here is the finished lure. It is a Strike King Red Eye Shad. Thanks for all the help ....
  11. Has anyone ever used a Grex airbrush? I did a google search and their a/b get good reviews. Just looking for a personal review ... Grex
  12. Selling a practically brand new Badger Renegade Velocity Airbrush. Used 1 time and cleaned. The Velocity is a 1/3 oz. gravity feed internal mix airbrush that features a .21mm tip size. Also comes with a braided hose and the Badger Velocity case. $100.00 for airbrush and hose. PM me if interested.
  13. Locally ... Hobby Lobby and Micheals. I've noticed that Hobby Lobby's price on Createx is cheaper than Micheals' ... at least where I live. Right now Hobby Lobby has all their airbrush stuff including Createx paints on for 30% off. Also, check Hobby Lobby's website everyweek for a 40% coupon and sign up for email from Micheals'. They will send you coupons every week. Which you can use for Createx paint. I've bought almost all of my Createx either with Hobby Lobby or Micheals' coupons or when Hobby Lobby has it on sale. I did just purchase some from ArtSupply.com who ran a sale on Createx with free shipping. They had some colors that I couldn't get locally. You might want to look at ArtSupply.com ... they run sales on their airbrush paint. Ditto on WASCO. The Polytranspar and Wildlife are great and will last awhile. Shipping is a little high so I would save up and order what you need and want at one time.
  14. fishnart ... I thought about that method too. I also was thinking about maybe leaving the plug in while I clear coat and while the clear coat is fresh (soon I as get through brushing it on) remove the plug and set it aside to dry.
  15. 2 Questions on the Predator Bass Baits Square Bill lure .... 1. For those who have painted this lure what is the best method for clear coating the screw in plug in the bottom ? 2. Does anyone know the differing depths of the 3 different ball weights that come with it ? Depth of 1 ball, 2 balls, and all 3 balls. Thanks.
  16. My brother did some 'signage' for some baits he painted. He went to HobbyLobby and bought some a Decal Pkg that allows you to print decals on ink jet or laser printers. The decal kit comes in either a transparent or white background. The kit can be found on the model aisle and is by Testor I believe. He typed up what he needed in Microsoft Word and printed it out on the decal film. He has more then he can use. I think he said 5 sheets come in a pkg.
  17. Can someone help me with a Rainbow Trout pattern / colors? Don't see to many Rainbow Trout here in Louisiana Someone wants me to paint them a Rainbow Trout and I want to make sure its done right. Any suggestions and especially pics of painted trout baits anyone has done would be appreciated. Thanks.
  18. bobv, which Createx clear do you clear with before DN? The Gloss or the Matte? I'm guessing either would work ... just thought I would check first b4 I buy.
  19. BobP, Some of the lures that I have had problems with I did prime. The lure in the pic was not primed. I think you hit on the problem ... I may be over working it. Which I used to doing with D2T to get a good smooth coat. I make one pass of the brush and will then go over the same spot again. Which as you said is keeping the DN wet too long. With D2T I usually will make 1 or 2 several passes to make sure I get a smooth even coat. If I remember correctly I made only one made only pass of the brush on most of this lure except where the wrinkling occurred. Thanks for the help.
  20. Still have the link for the eBay auction? I would like to see this thing.
  21. Any help on what is happening here with Dick Nite clear coat? I have had this happen on most baits I tried it on. It seems I have only had a 2-3 baits come out clean when I use Dick Nite's. I brush it on. I have tried just hanging it to dry and turning it on a wheel. I have ruined too many baits ... need advice. I have also had DN actually remove the paint from the bait while applying it. Use Polytranspar, Wildlife and Createx. And I heat set every color that is applied.
  22. I have been thinking about what to use for soft frog bodies for awhile. I have someone now who wants me to paint them a frog. I used to paint R/C bodies and was considering Faskolor paints since they are for polycarbonate and the paint will remain flexible and resistant to cracking. But wasn't sure how to protect to the paint from the water. So is the UV hardner that you added protecting the paint?
  23. Looking for a mix for the blue in a Threadfin Shad. Been playing around but not happy with the colors I've come up with. Any ideas? Thanks.
  24. I experienced the same problem with the press n seal as did luke1wcu. When I peeled the press n seal off it took some of the paint with it. It didn't take paint from the area that the piece of press n seal was covering ... just a section. As far as I could tell the paint was dry. I heat seat between each color w/ a hair dryer. Will have to try it again.
  25. I was wondering what the latest news in on the Dick Nite's clear coat? Are you able to order again?
