  1. Patrick is on the money, about a month ago I was in your shoes. Buy some blanks and start painting! I usually get my blanks off ebay, if you watch for it you can get them cheaper than the places I've seen on the net. As for airbrushes I went with the paasche vl just because I got it on sale in a combo kit, as a first time airbrush user there was a bit of a learning curve but after my first couple of attempts I got the hang of it, I've taken pics of the baits I've been doing and I can see myself improving. Just practice practice practice! I use createx paints, they flow pretty well without being thinned in my #3 tip, and even better thinned with a little water. It's a lot easier to fade colors into each other with transparent paints, look around here on TU there is a wealth of information here for beginners and plenty of people willing to share their experiences! You might also want to look around on youtube, there are some good videos there that will give you a little insight on technique. As for the lure turner there are a few tutorials in the hard bait tutorial section, pretty inexpensive to make one and its definitely a must have! Good luck to you and keep painting!

    Molds + Injector

willing to split the mold and injector from the pot?
  3. Got any del-mart motor oil colorant?
  4. Just bought a Humminbird 798, have heard stories of people getting transducers for these ripped off from stumps and what not. I'm hoping someone else has a little experience with one of these, I have a 2010 bass tracker pro team 170 tx. I've been over to the yahoo side imaging group and haven't had any luck over there, saw some pictures over there but people all had them in different locations, above the step, below the step, dead center in the transom or off to the left or right, help me out with some guidance TU!!
  5. Haha I did end up ordering some of the clear bodies, They were in pretty good shape with no yellowing.I'm in the process of talking to the guy to see if I can order more than 10. Thats pretty interesting that you cut the cams off and they hunt, let us know if you test the other 8 and get the same results. If not I might just have to cut the cams off mine to I live in the desert and the closest lake is 2 hours away and it aint that great, have to drive almost 4 hours just to get some decent fishing in So the only way I can test mine atm is the bathtub and I don't think thats enough water for a proper test.
  6. That was you that outbid me on those brush baby chrome blanks!!
  7. @bjgshop I've tried the heating method on several lures. I have tried a blow dryer, boiling water, leaving em out in the sun etc. It does work for some if not most lures but I have run into a few that I was unable to split using these methods. Try the heat method and if it won't work for you then follow Rayburnguys advice, hasn't led me astray yet! @Rayburnguy I would like a link to those wheels, regular cut off wheels don't work so great lol

    Most recent attempt

Getting a lot better witht the fine detail, still more overspray than I'd like, but I'm learning! Thanks TU for turning me into an addict!!
  9. I was pretty happy with this one til I got on the hardbait galleries to have a look around, you guys put me to shame lol. It came out pretty good but I could get the paint to transition the way I wanted it to? Any tips on transitions/fades?
  10. still a lot of overspray getting a little better at freehand definition.

    My first crank

So this was my first ever paintjob using an airbrush. Lots of overspray and a couple of missed spots but overall I think I did fairly decent. Take it easy on this poor noob and any tips for improvement are greatly appreciated!
  12. check out instructables.com and do a search for boat, theres all kinds of different plans there.
  13. Hehe good to hear from the tube guru, I actually sent you an email yesterday Bojon
  14. Thanks Dave, as always your a fount of information!
  15. @ Vodkaman I've seen you mention that before, when you say no extra equipment would you just use a shop vac with a reducer of some sort to a small tube? @Toadfrog Have you fished jigs or spinnerbaits with these types of skirts before? Why do you say to add hardener? I could understand it for tubes but for a skirt you'd get more action out of some medium or soft wouldnt you? Thanks for the input guys, much appreciated!
  16. any particular reason why?
  17. So I'm slightly obsessed with making a hand pour mold for skirts. I've been wracking my brains trying to think of a way to get a hand pour mold to fill with such small strands, then I ran across some of the tube dipping threads and thought hey I could just dip some tubes and cut the skirt all the way to the top! My question is does anyone do this and are they effective on jigs and spinnerbaits? Or should I stick to silicone etc for skirts?
  18. Saw a thread not to long ago where someone was asking about this but I dont think anyone posted to it. Can anyone out there help me with a good color mix to produce berkley motor oil? I've tried adding yellow and green (separate runs) to LC motor oil, but with no success
  19. Prayers sent your way brother, hang in there!
  20. Heres a link to some info Vodkaman came up with. Good to know when it comes to drying http://www.tackleunderground.com/community/topic/16349-pop-dryer-final-prototype/page__hl__%2Boven+%2Bdrying__fromsearch__1
  21. Nice post by Red here http://www.tackleunderground.com/community/topic/2772-dupli-k8r-1000-concept-machine/page__p__17203__hl__duplicator__fromsearch__1#entry17203 Do a search for duplicator in the hardbait forums, some nice info there. Oh and welcome to TU
  22. Everytime I turn around and try to follow a link somewhere, whether it be a link back to TU or elsewhere, comes up dead. I see all these people talking about something I want to learn about, find a link in the post and its dead! What gives? Are there no archives? Are these topics being deleted?
  23. Hey chachy, I'm still a noob compared to most of these guys but in my experience water putty is easier to work with than POP due to the fact you can add vinegar to it to increase the working time before it sets. I'm sure there are retardants for POP as well but cant say what they are. I started out with POP and had quite a few issues, to me DWP (Durhams Water Putty) is much easier to work with and I was more than satisfied with the results. Just do a search for water putty mold here on TU, shouldnt be hard to find a tutorial.
