  1. Woodie, I already have my full time job and my business (Dinger Custom Baits). I dont think I have even 70 hours to spare. Some one should have told the earth to slow down rotation so the days are longer!
  2. Going to be doing some surface baits for Muskie, also some flat sides and square bills since I bass fish way too much. My wife said i need a winter hobby. So looks like I chose this one.
  3. Aulrich, that is what I wasthinking. the thinned spar varnish. I call every clear coat a poly by habit. Most of my stuff will be cedar, so i think that would work.
  4. So what im thinking is just sealing it then painting it. Any tips on sealing Cedar? I was thinking just using poly on it.
  5. I was just thinking this for wooden lures because it would seal and make the lure harder.
  6. Bob, I agree there. I see it as a two part, and a lot are for marine use. I know when I used to paint the bottoms of boats we had to do an epoxy primer on it called Interlux. Im not sure if it is the same principal since I have seen it as an automotive thing too with the two part.
  7. Has anyone tried or had success with epoxy primers. I was watching a Youtube video, and the guy dipped his wooden lure un sealed in Epoxy primer. Looks interesting.
  8. I got a 1x4x3 just to play around with today. Our menards keeps everything inside. Moisture content is super low from what I am seeing. and it is pretty straight. so I wont complain.
  9. Travis, funny you mentioned Bennett Hardwoods, after you mentioned that, I realized they are one of my customers at my current day job. and it is literally 5 minutes from me. This is why I love this site. You guys always have good info. And we have TOOOOO much Basswood here! It makes up 5% of our tree population ( i had to google it)
  10. Matt, I am just looking for some starter wood (que puberty jokes). Got a nice new band saw to pay with, and I am going to start doing some of my own stuff along with all the hard baits I already do. Looking to get into more of the Customs side of things.
  11. I am looking for Kiln dried if possible. I know Menards up by me carries a lot of cedar, but I am not sure if it is dried. I will find out this weekend when I actually get a break from my hectic life.
  12. I know it was posted before. There was a link to a wood supplier by one of you guys. Mainly looking for some red or white cedar. Just got a new Rikon band saw and am going to be tooling around with some custom designs again. Any links to reputable suppliers with quality stock in wood would be great. Thanks Guys!
  13. PVC glue or PVC epoxy works great to laminate it just as Mark said. I believe Mark is the King of PVC if you decide to go that way. It is great stuff for making proto types. I usually buy a board or two of it when I go to Menards just to have it around.
  14. Great video! Thanks for sharing that!
  15. Super easy to carve, although the dust sticks to damn near everything. I use PVC to carve masters I want to mold since there is no sealing that is needed. Just carve, sand, prime, paint...
  16. I sand blast with baking soda
  17. I always look at other baits when choosing hooks first. What looks good doesnt always mean it is functional. Hooks will change the weight and the action. It is best to test a few different sizes. I would start around the 3/0 and go up or down depending on the look, action, and weight.
  18. I tried, but some one made it about just one bait
  19. I would think... Make a loop on one end, put the other two ends in a chordless drill, put a screwdriver in the loop and pull the trigger slowly.... that will give it a good twist
  20. Yikes, I would say that is crooked. Great key chain or a shadowbox piece. Got some shanazzy paint jobs! I started getting my bills separate to avoid this on most. I had issues with a supplier glueing them in crooked.
  21. Ron, I meant in general, as a supplier, If anyone finds anything wrong with the products I supply I like to know so i can try to avoid things in the future, or change things. I appreciate the kind words. There might be a sale this weekend...
  22. I end up sending samples and proto types to guys that have open water. Wisconsin is pretty much frozen already where I am at.
