I have tried Polycrylic as it was recommended to me from another lure maker that I respect alot. It's okay for "looking at lures" but for fishing it's not that good. Years ago I had some molds and two chemicals that I mixed, poured in to molds and they expaned, cured and made a foam mold. Since moving I cannot find these or where I got them from. Anyone know what I am talking about and any sources? Thanks,http://topfishingplace.com' rel="external nofollow">

I use poplar quite a bit. It's easy to turn and sands exceptionaly smooth. As with any wood, be sure and seal well. I mostly bass fish so I don't know how well it will do for toothy fish. Best Fishing Supplies on the Net - Home

When I'm having a good day, I usually hold the lure with my left hand and paint with my right. However, at 60 yrs. old, sometimes I get the shakes and have to use an old fly tying vise to hold the lure steady. I paint mostly with acrylic so I don't mind the mess on my hand as it easily washes off. Oh, by the way! The shakes are not from drinking. I'm just getting old. Don't be so critical of yourself. The more you paint the better it will get. The only thing I care about is the fish that like it. I post pictures of my catches with the lure on my site and have no problem with selling them after that. Best Fishing Supplies on the Net - Home

I like basswood. Just the right weight for me and easy to turn. I have made a number of Rush Tango style frogs and they sit well in the water and CATCH FISH!
