Do you make these blanks Oreo you have them produced? I find them extremely interesting
  2. Centigrade

    Green bait fish.

What type of paint do you use rob?
  3. How do you get that nice blue pearl effect on the perch/bluegill? Pearlex?
  4. You can also get eclipse on eBay for $100 straight from Japan. If your in Canada like myself Jjust buy stuff during sales, winnipeg has an artist shop and do sales of 50% off all the time. Eclipse is very nice, I have never had a cheaper brush so I can't compare.

    Have any larger pictures?
  6. I've been using this site as a learning tool the past four years but only joined a few months back Dave. Right now I'm talking with a few painters, hard bait dealers and fly tiers. I personally love to bass fish, but if I was to make lures I would want to make Muskie lures. I think once I get really good at this painting thing my next step is going towards large Muskie lures. I'm probably of the topic by now but I have been looking to having my own bass baits made in China. It's a process because I don't want to go into selling large amounts unless I quit my day job. What's you take on Muskie baits? Carv your own or produce them in China? Brent
  7. Kkbc, ok I understand. Same idea I love painting baits and catching fish on them especially Muskie in Lake of the Woods. I may respond again later about a recent purchase I've made, I'm just waiting to hear back from the supplier.
  8. Sorry vodkaman, yeah I get a bit carried away. Baits I'm painting my sponsored friends are helping advertise and test. I have made my own wooden popper before but it's just a varnished peice of driftwood with a flasher on the back. Makes a better decoration then a fishing lure.
  9. I don't know if you're offended but it seems you misread my statement. I cannot sell those lures for more then 5 dollars because it would give me a bad reputation. Shelts are great for the average guy looking for a 5 dollar lure, but it's just a 5 dollar lure. I'm not telling anyone what is the best I'm just giving feedback. Not all of shelts lures are complete garbage. Everybody sells cheap lures, look at bass pro in the 1.00-2.99 section. My circumstance may be a bit different then yours is. I fish in tournaments with hundreds of boats. Local pros that I have known since we were in grade-school are helping me test and advertise the baits I'm making. There clearly is a market for the cheap stuff and I'm sure that's what I can sell most of during tourist season. In retrospective one persons opinion on quality may not be the same as the next persons. I'm using testers sponsored by st.croix, bass tactics, hummingbird, venom lures, and Tokar. So maybe my standards for a good blank is setting the bar a bit high. I feel like I'm going in circles on this subject. My testers are credible people and will be testing more baits this spring. I'm glad to share all feedback I get on the bait with TU.
  10. I don't think shelts baits all come from one spot. I do believe he attempts to fix the issues as they arise. I don't think he has good baits to compare to, like the ones we may have in our tackle boxes. I still think shelts bait will catch fish. Good for practice painting, and kids need lures to. For shelts it's the a five dollar bargain bin because I have a conscious. This doesn't mean Jon Does 5 dollar buy doesn't have a spot on the top shelf of his tackle box. It's all about what you need/want.
  11. I got my replacement baits from shelt and they are the same broken lures he sent the first time. He said he would send me the newer fixed version of them on my nex order. Not sure when that will be, depends if he had a blowout sale on his little johns, probably the only thing I liked that came in. My order from dingers came in today! I'm very impressed with what I got. I'm in Canada and the dollar is killing me at 3-4$ a bait candian after shipping. Hands down wouldn't trade one bait for 5 of shelts.

    Black Crappie.

    Interested in this recipe
  13. If water gets to the paint on those sharp edges will the water seep under the devcon and peel off the lure?
  14. I'm not sure if this is the right forum for asking this question but is anyone having issues with devcon not sealing on rigid areas around eyes or gills. I can touch it up but I don't want to do a full second coat.

    Blue Gill

I really like the colors on this one. Great job. Which blank is that?
  16. I don't notice a difference between shelts and WLure. I have them both in front of me. Some bearings are bigger or smaller then others and stick inside bait throwing the weight to one side. You get what you pay for in the end.
  17. The bais from shelts work. He had fixed the baits that had issues and offered me replacements for the batch that were faulty. The internals of his baits on the other hand are not consistent. I weight my baits because you find problems easier that way before you paint them. Shelts are good for honing your painting skills. But if you actually fish tournaments then don't waste your time and pay the extra buck ten and buy from dinger or pred. Shelts baits I can sell for 5-6bucks Canadian (eagle claw hooks), any more and I would feel guilty. I would say as of now they are good for kids and novice fishermen. He seems to be improving his baits so here is to looking forward and being positive.
  18. Cougar could I also have your shop link?
  19. E & B tackle uses alumi uv and swears by it but I can't afford the shipping. Its worth googling they have a video for it.
  20. FYI cedar has some flap slap kos in this week on sale. I will be buying a few to paint if anyone else happens to tests them this please share
  21. Do you use Devon two ton Mohawk? I can't get gst or eagle in Canada unfortunately to test it but I like the results I've gotten with armour coat 5 min epoxys but it's hard to get all the bubbles in time
  22. Speaking with cedar he does get some of his baits from shelts when he is in a bind he stated. Regardless they are good baits to starting baits to practice painting especially on sale for .40 cents a lure. I just hope when the ice melts in May I can test them for durability.
  23. Has anyone purchased from cedar run outdoors? I think it's the same quality as shelts but he sells bulk hooks at a reasonable price. The little Jon lures from shelts are definetly knock offs of knock offs but the 2 I painted and epoxied sure swam nice after I Made a few eyelet adjustments. FYI I have been following TU the past few years and recently made my account. I'm painting in Canada so it's tough to find reasonable prices for baits with our dollar right now. This site is a saviour
  24. Does anyone have a link to this GST product so i can view it. I'm assuming its the one everyone's raving about but i'm not quite sure. Seems cheaper then Alumi UV by a mile
